Recently I had a client who was in the market for a new hair dryer. She asked me about mine and if there was a brand I would recommend.
This began a discussion about all the features of a hair dryer. What wattage should she get? What does ionic mean? Are attachments necessary?
She had been using a hair dryer that she bought years ago at a discount store - just a basic model, nothing fancy, no attachments, similar to the type of hair dryer you might find in a hotel.
After her appointment, she took into account all the information I shared with her and ordered a new hair dryer online. At her next appointment, I was amazed! Her hair was shinier, smoother, and had an overall healthier look and feel. She also reported that it was much easier for her to achieve a style similar to that which she gets when she visits me.
The only thing she changed was her hair dryer.
I have always used professional hair dryers when drying my hair at home, so I did not fully understand the importance of the right hair dryer! I now have proof, that yes, it could be your hair dryer.
Some basic hair dryer facts:
I am not here to promote a certain brand of dryer, but to recommend investing in one that will help keep your hair healthy. The right hair dryer will also decrease overall dry time, so you can get on with your day.
Your hair is important, but you have a life to live too!

Some basic hair dryer facts:
- The greater the wattage, the more power and in turn the quicker your hair will dry.
- Ionic dryers produce negative ions that help to break up the water molecules and seal the hair cuticle. The result is a quicker dry time, less damage to the hair, less frizz and more shine.
- Ceramic dryers heat up quicker and more evenly and produce a type of infrared heat that dries the hair with minimal to no damage.
- Tourmaline dryers generate negative ions when heated. As noted above - negative ions are great for the hair!
- The nozzle on the end of your hair dryer helps to direct the heat. By angling the hair dryer down the hair from root to end, the cuticles of the hair remain flat, which keeps moisture locked in and creates shiny hair.
